task: mix a messy canvas white
tasks: medical bills
broken salt cellars
toasters towels to fold
unmade phone calls to
uninterested people vacuuming
I paint the center clean as perfect pitch
a Rothko moonrise
birch bark half-truths abound
Yes I love you Yes I have time
Yes I called about the light fixture
no answer
lift the brush again
Joni beckons on
give us this day
our gently smudged smocks
you must buy the flowers yourself
